This is one of the most widely visited places in Ahmedabad, situated just outside the Delhi Gate. The temple was built in 1850 by a rich Jain merchant - Seth Huthising Kesarising who was a great man as well. The temple is built in white marble, much famous for its intricate carvings and profuse architectural designs. It is dedicated to 15th Jain Trithanakara (Jain Proponent), Dharmnath. The temple is beautifully decorated with elaborate carvings. The courtyard around the temple is surrounded by a row of abbey of 52 holy places with each one having an image of a Trithankara. While you make a trip to Ahmedabad, a visit to this temple is a must. Akshardham Temple
The Swaminarayan Akshardham temple of Gandhinagar is a modern complex, built in traditional Indian architectural style from 6000 metric tons of long lasting pink sandstone, from Rajasthan, and carved by expert artisans from Bansipahadpur. The uniqueness of the temple is that it is entirely made from sand stone without any use of steel. The temple houses a 7 ft gold leafed idol of Lord Swaminarayan along with his relics kept inside the temple. The temple is set in the multi acre garden, an example of modern state-of-the-art and architecture. Lord Swami Narayan was born in Uttar Pradesh who had visited Gujarat to preach his religion and hence built a series of temples at several places in the country. His followers are spread at various places of the country and abroad.
